A Completely Intimate Wedding in Colorado

The 2020 global pandemic changed so much of what we know in these modern times. For better or worse, people around the world were forced to change their everyday routines and quickly adapt to a new style of living, and wedding planning was no exception.

The biggest trend to emerge from the wedding world amidst the pandemic was the uber-chic and personal “micro-weddings.” Micro-weddings are ceremonies that are dramatically scaled down in order to accommodate for social distancing and proper COVID restrictions. The intimacy of these gatherings gave an entirely new meaning to exchanging nuptials, and luckily, the trend is here to stay. Looking for a completely isolated micro-wedding? Colorado allows you to take it a step further and marry yourselves!

What is Self Solemnization?

Self solemnization is a completely legal way of marrying yourselves without needing an officiant present. Colorado is one of the few states that allow this kind of “self-uniting” marriage. All you have to do is get your marriage licenses, and on the day of your wedding, sign each other’s license on the line where your officiant would typically sign. It’s that easy!

Having the option of marrying yourselves opens the possibility of having a completely intimate and closed elopement ceremony. The entire event can be no more than you, your person, and the beautiful Colorado landscape serving as your backdrop. Or, it can serve as an extra layer of affection on your Big Day, as you officiate your own wedding in front of your closest friends and family. However you choose to celebrate, self-solemnization is a great way to establish a bond with your forever partner, and avoid the stress of arranging an officiant.

This Winter, I had the pleasure of shooting a beautiful self-solemnization wedding surrounded by the serene Colorado mountains.
