Tom and Magen met on August 29th 2014 in downtown Denver after the Colorado State upset over the University of Colorado in the Rocky Mountain Showdown. Tom approached Magen and complimented her on her style and what he thought to be shoulder pads. Magen was pretty embarrassed by this as she was not wearing any should pads (because it was not the 80s) and told Tom to go away, thinking he was being rude. She was glad he didn't listen, he genuinely thought she was bringing back shoulder pads (he must really like the 80s). Realizing his mistake, he offered to buy her a drink to make up for it and the rest was history.

Tom and Magen went on vacation to Iceland in December 2017. They traveled for 10 days with her brother Cody and sister-in-law Andrea. They enjoyed snorkeling between tectonic plates, Icelandic horseback riding, glacier hiking, exploring numerous waterfalls and geological landmarks and of course, New Year's in Reykjavik. On January 3, 2018 Tom got down on one knee after a two-mile hike to Iceland's famous US Navy airplane that safely crashed on Sólheimasandur black sand beach in 1973. It is one of the most photographed and hidden landmarks in Iceland. Magen, of course said yes surrounded by Icelandic glaciers, black sand beach, endless ocean and people she loves!
